User Research
-
Existing tools treat memory care like medical care — complex, clinical, and caregiver-heavy. Older adults lose agency in their own care while families are left without a meaningful way to stay connected. No product bridges the evidence base with the warmth and simplicity this population deserves.
-
Three tensions surfaced through interviews with older adults and family caregivers: patients want independence while caregivers want visibility; engagement peaks when the experience feels celebratory, not clinical; and the biggest friction isn't the therapy itself — it's setup, onboarding, and the emotional weight of managing a loved one's decline.
How might we transform evidence-based reminiscence therapy into a joyful, family-centered daily ritual that respects user autonomy while reducing caregiver burden?

Caregiver Onboarding
We implemented caregiver-first onboarding after testing showed that traditional account setup was anxiety-inducing for older adults.
Caregivers download the app, set up the account, and curate content before the patient ever opens it—ensuring patients avoid complex setup flows and experience immediate value. Instead of onboarding friction, patients receive a simple access code and can begin exploring their organized memories right away.
Patient Interface
The patient interface reflects our core values—dignified, joyful, autonomous, and accessible—by balancing engagement with ease. Duolingo-style progress cues encourage daily use without pressure, while warm visuals and nostalgic audio make each session feel celebratory rather than clinical.
Minimal navigation, large touch targets, clear hierarchy, and high contrast ensure accessibility for older adults with motor or visual challenges.
App Interface
Designed for efficiency and insight.
